As with 304, most seamless TP316 is produced to dual 316/316L certification: it meets the strength of 316 and the low carbon of 316L together, so a single pipe serves both general chloride-service lines and as-welded assemblies. For chloride duty the 316L carbon limit matters more than usual, because sensitized weld zones are exactly where chloride attack concentrates, so dual-certified material is the sensible default and the standard supply here.

The premium logic on 316 has an extra dimension over 304. Beyond pressure and code mandates, chloride service itself argues for seamless, because a longitudinal weld seam is a potential initiation site for chloride pitting and crevice attack, and removing it removes that risk. Where the line carries chlorides under pressure, seamless TP316 is often the right call for corrosion reasons as much as mechanical ones. Where chlorides overwhelm 316 entirely, the answer is not a heavier 316 wall but a different family, super duplex.
