SS 347H pipes also offer better mechanical strength and thus are very desirable in service conditions of high temperature.
Welded constructions and parts that are subjected to heating in the range of carbide precipitation temperature are highly used in type 347 stainless steel pipes. Common uses are aircraft collector rings, aircraft exhaust systems and exhaust stacks. The type 347H stainless steel pipes are regularly utilized in the boiler casings, cabin heaters, carburetor air intensifier tubes, exhaust manifolds, fasteners, firewalls, and flash boilers where both thermal and corrosion resistance are required.
Stainless Steel 347 / 347H pipes have a reflective surface that is obtained by heat treatment but can have some slight cloudiness. Further buffing operations may be employed to make the surfaces more reflective, and such pipes can be used in cases when the use of the surface reflectivity and reflection finishes are needed. SS 347 and 347H pipes have been widely applied in chemical processing, food production, refrigeration and other industries because of their high quality and performance aspects.

Stainless steel 347 pipes are highly applicable in components subjected to heating cooling cycles of services that are intermittent and with a temperature of between 800�F to 1600�F. Grade 347H pipes are particularly suggested in the applications where the repeated thermal exposure range varies between 427�C and 899�C. Alloy 347 pipes have greater creep strength and better stress rupture characteristics as compared to Alloy 304. The stainless steel 347H pipes are specifically applicable in service types of conditions where sensitization resistance and intergranular corrosion are vital. Components exposed to intermittent heating to 1500�F or so are usually made with SS 347 pipes, whereas pipes that have better mechanical stability within high-temperature operating environments are made with SS 347H pipes.

The difference between the carbon content is the main one. The 347H has a more significant carbon concentration (0.04 - 0.10%), resulting in increased strength (creep) and greater mechanical strength at temperatures over 1000�C than the standard 347 grade.
Niobium (also called Columbium) is played as stabilizer. It also combines with carbon to produce niobium carbides rather than chromium carbides to stop depletion of chromium at grain boundaries thereby preventing intergranular corrosion of the pipe.
Both of them are stabilized grades but SS 347 is stabilized with Niobium and SS 321 is stabilized with Titanium. The SS 347 is more stable at the high temperatures and is the filler material of choice when welding the 321 grade pipes.
Yes. Due to its great creep and stress-rupture, Grade 347H is commonly used in ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code work often in the form of superheaters and steam headers.
SS 347H is non-magnetic in annealed form, just like all austenitic stainless steels. Nevertheless, it can be a little magnetic following a lot of cold working in the process of fabrication of a pipe.
SS 347 has excellent oxidation resistance at intermittent service to 1500�F (816�C) and continuous service to 1600�F (871�C).
