SS 304 Pipe Price List – Size & Schedule Wise

The table below provides a tentative SS 304 pipe pricing in ₹/kg and ₹/m in relation to popular nominal bore sizes and schedules. The figures in ₹/kg are exclusive of GST, whereas ₹/m figures can be calculated as weight per meter multiplied by the rate per kg. For quantities specific to a project, one needs to request a live quote because bulk purchases get a lower price per KG as compared to the list price.

How Is SS 304 Pipe Price Calculated?

The pricing for SS 304 is neither fixed nor constant. On the contrary, the quote offered by a supplier consists of several cost elements that can change according to the specifications of the product in line with the state of the market and the conditions for purchase. The detailed knowledge on the pricing factors makes it easier for buyers to analyze different quotations and make the best choice.

  • Base price – determined by the mills in the country considering the production cost and the grade of the product (Jindal, Salem Steel, etc.).
  • Nickel & alloy surcharge – SS 304 contains approximately 8% nickel, and the surcharge (which is revised by mills on a monthly basis and is based on the price of nickel on the London Metals Exchange) is typically the largest of the rate-swing factors.
  • Manufacturing premium - The production of high-quality seamless pipe incurs greater costs than that of welded or ERW pipes, due to the extra cost of hot-piercing and extrusion techniques. Other factors include the dimensions and thickness of the pipes.
  • GST – 18% is applicable over base + surcharge + premium.
  • Packing and Freight – this depends on the delivery point and quantity of the order

Simplified formula: Final SS 304 cost = Base Material Price + Nickel/Alloy Surcharge + Manufacturing Premium + applicable Freight, with GST applied to the applicable taxable value

That is why the same nominal size could have different rates from different suppliers on the same day, and the reason the gap often is attributed to the difference in surcharge date and the difference in manufacturing form (seamless vs welded).

SS 304 Price by Pipe Type

The figures given below are indicative reference rates and cannot be considered as fixed market quotations for cities on a standalone basis. The prices offered can vary based on supplier location, shipping, quantity of order, and availability, among other terms.

Pipe Type Typical Price Range (₹/kg) Best Suited For
SS 304 Seamless Pipe 230 – 260 High-pressure, critical service (refinery, petrochemical)
SS 304 Welded (ERW) Pipe 190 – 210 General piping, structural, low-to-medium pressure
SS 304 EFW Pipe 205 – 225 Large diameter, fabricated sections

The manufacturing process makes seamless SS 304 pipe 15–25% more expensive than welded pipe of the same size. If you're considering between Seamless and Welded Stainless Steel pipe, read through our detailed Seamless vs Welded Stainless Steel Pipe.

Factors That Affect SS 304 Rate Fluctuation

Different market and business aspects affect SS 304 prices in quotation sequences:

  • Nickel cost and LME rates – Nickel, which is around 8% of SS 304, influences alloy surcharges and total metal prices as well.
  • Exchange rate – Fluctuations of INR with respect to USD affect imported raw materials prices and alloy input costs, too.
  • Mill surcharges – Stainless steel mills periodically change surcharges for alloys or other materials, and that will affect given quotations.
  • Supply and demand – Demand from construction, chemical, and food processing business fields increases prices in the market.
  • Logistics – Transportation expenses, the distance of the delivery, and quantity specify the final price.

The above aspects can help buyers make sense of the disparities of SS 304 prices during different quotations.

SS 304 vs SS 316 vs SS 202 – Price Comparison

The buyer will commonly compare 304 with the grades adjoining it before committing to a spec. The typical rate comparison is as follows:

Grade Nickel Content Indicative Rate (₹/kg) Price vs SS 304
SS 202 Low nickel, manganese-substituted 150 – 175 20–30% cheaper
SS 304 ~8% nickel 195 – 255 Baseline
SS 316 ~10–14% nickel + molybdenum 250 – 320 20–30% costlier

SS 202 is not the same as 304 and is not suitable for corrosive service; it is a cost decision when used in non-critical, indoor service. Before comparing the prices, be sure to look at our SS SS 304 vs SS 316 guide if your project requires the presence of chlorides or exposure to marine environments.

City-Wise SS 304 Pipe Price in India

City Indicative Rate (₹/kg)
Mumbai 202
Delhi 210
Chennai 207
Kolkata 206
Bangalore 205
Ahmedabad 203
Pune 204

The difference in the base + surcharge between cities is largely transport-driven (as the base is set nationally by the mill, the most significant differences occur between the city of manufactured goods and the landed city, e.g. Mumbai is the nearest to mills and shows the lowest landed rate, whereas other cities show differences based on transport costs).

Frequently Asked Questions

According to the indicative rates mentioned on this website, the prices of SS 304 pipes start from ₹190 to ₹260 per kg based on the type of pipe, size, and schedule. Please keep in mind that these are indicative reference prices and not binding quotes. For exact prices for your required specifications, please contact Metinox Overseas.

The rate is directly pegged to the nickel and alloy surcharges fixed by mills, which in turn is dependent on the movement of the INR to USD and the LME price of nickel. The base steel price remains fairly constant; it is the surcharge that fluctuates from week to week.

The above rates are quoted without GST. An extra 18% GST is charged on the invoice value.

Comparable to the difference in 304 versus 316, the difference between the cost of 304L (low-carbon variant) and standard 304 is generally in the 2–5% range.

The more intensive manufacturing process causes the cost of seamless SS 304 pipe to be generally 15-25% higher per kg compared to the welded pipe of the same size.
