Metinox Overseas is a trusted manufacturer and supplier of ASTM A182 F5 forged fittings in premium 5Cr-0.5Mo alloy steel, specifically designed for socket weld and threaded connections in high temperature and corrosive refinery applications. Supplied under ASTM A182 / ASME SA182, these forged fittings cover 1/4 inch to 4 inch NB in Class 3000, 6000, and 9000 LB per ASME B16.11. F5 forged fittings are a part of our complete Alloy Steel Pipe Fittings range, which is manufactured to order and stocked for quick export to refineries, EPC contractors and distributors across the globe.
A182 F5 and ASTM A234 WP5 have the same chemistry (5Cr-0.5Mo) but are two completely different product forms. F5 is a forged small-bore (1/4"-4") socket weld or threaded fitting and ASTM A234 WP5 Pipe Fittings are large bore, wrought buttweld fittings. For a high-temperature refinery piping system, both are needed, WP5 for the main line and A182 F5 for instrument taps and small-bore connections on the same piping system.

ASTM A182 F5 (5Cr-0.5Mo) is an air-hardening alloy requiring preheat and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT). Preheat to 200-300°C before welding; maintain interpass temperature. Perform PWHT at a minimum of 675°C (1250°F) to relieve residual stress and restore toughness. Use filler metals matching 5Cr-0.5Mo chemistry, such as E/ER80S-B6 or E502. Request Metinox’s PWHT certificates and welding procedure documentation for site fabrication.
When specifying alloy steel forged fittings, engineers often choose between ASTM A182 F5 andASTM A182 F11 Forged Fittings. The key differentiator is chromium content and the service environment.
| Property | A182 F5 (5Cr-0.5Mo) | A182 F11 (1.25Cr-0.5Mo) |
|---|---|---|
| Chromium Content | 4.0 to 6.0% | 1.00 to 1.50% |
| Molybdenum Content | 0.44 to 0.65% | 0.44 to 0.65% |
| UNS Number | S50200 | K11597 |
| Sulphidic Corrosion Resistance | Superior (higher Cr) | Moderate |
| Naphthenic Acid Resistance | Superior | Moderate |
| Oxidation Resistance (max temp) | Up to 600 deg C | Up to 550 deg C |
| Typical Refinery Application | Crude overhead, vacuum tower, hydrotreater | Steam lines, moderate-temp process piping |
| Select F5 When | High sulphur crude, naphthenic acid streams | Lower sulphur environment, cost-sensitive |
For high chromium applications in power generation, see also ASTM A182 F22 Forged Fittings (2.25Cr-1Mo), which targets elevated-temperature creep resistance over sulphidic corrosion resistance. Metinox Overseas supplies both A182 F5 forged fittings and ASTM A234 WP5 buttweld fittings from the same 5Cr-0.5Mo heat, allowing a single certified MTR to cover the entire circuit.
ASTM A182 F5 forged fittings are the specified choice in the following service environments:

Contact Us / Request a QuoteBoth grades carry identical 5Cr-0.5Mo chemistry (UNS S50200), but the product form differs. A182 F5 covers forged socket weld and threaded fittings per ASME B16.11 for small-bore connections (1/4 inch to 4 inch). ASTM A234 WP5 covers wrought buttweld fittings per ASME B16.9 for large-bore butt-welded main-line joints. A complete refinery piping system typically requires both on the same circuit.
ASTM A182 F5 forged fittings are manufactured per ASME B16.11 in Class 2000 LB (threaded, 1/4 inch to 2 inch), Class 3000 LB (socket weld and threaded, 1/4 inch to 4 inch), Class 6000 LB (socket weld and threaded, 1/4 inch to 4 inch), and Class 9000 LB (socket weld and threaded, 1/4 inch to 2 inch). Class selection is governed by the design pressure, temperature, and piping class of the connected system.
Specify A182 F5 (5Cr-0.5Mo) when the process stream contains significant sulphur compounds, naphthenic acid, or operates above approximately 450 deg C, because the higher chromium content (4 to 6%) provides superior sulphidic and oxidation resistance. Specify A182 F11 (1.25Cr-0.5Mo) for moderate-temperature, lower-sulphur environments such as steam superheater headers and process lines below 550 deg C where the reduced alloy content offers a cost advantage without compromising service life.
Yes. ASTM A182 F5 socket weld fittings share the same 5Cr-0.5Mo chemistry as A335 P5 pipe and are the correct mating component for instrument taps and small-bore branches on P5 piping systems. Metinox Overseas supplies full traceability documentation including EN 10204 3.1 mill test reports (MTRs), heat and lot certificates, dimensional inspection reports, and third-party inspection (TPI) by approved agencies such as Bureau Veritas, SGS, TUV, or Lloyd's Register on request.
