Manufacturing Process of Titanium Pipes & Tubes

Highly metallurgical and forming techniques are implemented to produce titanium pipes and tubes that have good corrosion resistance, high strength-to-weight ratio, thermal stability, and an extended life span of use in harsh conditions.

  • Selection of Raw Materials
Titanium sponge of high-purity containing controlled alloying elements (aluminum, vanadium, and molybdenum) is applied to guarantee high corrosion, oxidation, and hostile media (seawater and acids) resistance.
  • Melting & Refining Process
To produce high purity, uniform chemistry, and better mechanical properties without contamination, Titanium is melted by Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR), Electron Beam Melting (EBM), or Plasma Arc Melting (PAM).
  • Billet Preparation & Hot Working
Titanium ingots are hot worked by forging, rolling, or extrusion to refine the grain structure, maximize strength and ready billets to be used in the production of pipes and tubes.
  • Pipe & Tube Forming
The extrusion or welded fabrication is made using titanium pipes and tubes. Precise cold drawing on seamless tubes is done and welded tubes are welded using TIG or laser welding to provide strong and reliable joints.
  • Cold Working & Sizing
This is done using cold working processes in the form of drawing or rolling to attain accuracy in the final dimensions, uniform wall thickness, and smooth surface finish.
  • Heat Treatment & Annealing
Controlled cooling Solution annealing enhances ductility, stress relief and corrosion resistance to maintain consistent performance over changes in pressure and temperature.
  • Testing & Quality Control
Pipes and tubes are tested on ultrasonic, eddy current, hydrostatic and dimensional testing to meet ASTM, ASME, ISO and other international requirements.

Applications & Usage of Titanium Pipes & Tubes

The titanium pipes and tubes are extensively applied in industries that require excellent corrosive resistance, lightweight construction, mechanical steadiness and durability in strenuous conditions.

  • Chemical Processing Industry
Titanium pipes and tubes are also commonly used in reactors, heat exchangers, condensers, and piping systems with corrosive chemicals like chlorides, nitric acid, organic acid and oxidizing environments.
  • Marine & Offshore Industry
Titanium pipes and tubes are employed in desalination facilities, offshore platforms, seawater cooling systems, shipboard piping, and desalination facilities because of their high corrosion and biofouling resistance to seawater.
  • Power Generation Industry
Applied to condensers, heat exchangers and cooling water systems of the thermal, nuclear and geothermal power stations where resistance to erosion, corrosion and high temperature are all required.
  • Aerospace Industry
The high strength to weight ratio, fatigue resistance and high temperature performance have made titanium tubes find application in hydraulic lines, fuel systems and structural applications.
  • Medical Pharmaceutical Industry
Used in medical devices, implants, heat exchangers and high-purity process piping where biocompatibility, cleanliness and corrosion resistance are important.
  • Oil & Gas Industry
Applied in downhole tubing, offshore piping, heat exchangers, and processing equipment that are subjected to sour gas, chlorides and high-pressure conditions.
  • Food & Beverage Industry
Titanium pipes and tubes are also appropriate to hygienic processing lines, heat exchangers, and storage systems because they are not toxic, resistant to corrosion, and clean easily.
  • Water Treatment and Desalination
Usually applied in reverse osmosis plants, evaporators, brine heaters and pipelines where the resistance to saline water and harsh treating chemicals is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
