Grade 317L is the low-carbon counterpart of SS 317, which was developed to reduce the amount of carbide that forms during the welding process and enhance resistance to intergranular corrosion. The alloy has increased content of chromium, nickel and molybdenum, which is superior in resistivity to general corrosion and pitting in chloride-rich and chemically hostile environments. The welded pipes have good performance in the use of nitric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid, and other corrosive media. Although heat treatment can not harden SS 317/317L welded pipes, cold working is well-received and the pipes retain excellent mechanical properties. Both pipes are subjected to a strict quality control procedure comprising both destructive and metallurgical testing to guarantee adherence to the international standards as well as the long-term service provisions.
