Request a Nickel 200 Pipe Fittings QuoteNickel 200 pipe fittings are made from commercially pure nickel that has a minimum of 99.0% nickel and is listed under the Unified Numbering System (UNS) as N02200. As part of the broader nickel alloy pipe fittings family, Nickel 200 is the go-to grade wherever outstanding resistance to caustic alkalis, hydrofluoric acid, chlorinated media, food acids, and fluorine-bearing compounds is required.
The most important specification for procuring UNS N02200 pipe fittings that the majority of buyers neglect to understand is that of the temperature: Nickel 200 should not be used above 315 deg C (600 deg F). The carbon content in Nickel 200 (max 0.15%) precipitates as graphite at the grain boundaries at temperatures above 315 deg C which may result in catastrophic failure in service. Nickel 201 (UNS N02201, C max 0.02%) has to be used in place of all other grades of nickel in any application above 315 deg C. Nickel 200 in excess of this value is a material nonconformance and may have potentially life-threatening consequences in high temperature alkali service.

The extremely high nickel content in UNS N02200 pipe fittings (minimum 99.0% Ni) is the primary reason for its outstanding resistance to caustic environments and halide media. Low iron and copper contents ensure purity is maintained for food-grade and pharmaceutical applications.
| Element | Min (%) | Max (%) |
|---|---|---|
| Nickel (Ni) | 99.0 | Balance |
| Copper (Cu) | -- | 0.25 |
| Iron (Fe) | -- | 0.40 |

Nickel 200 fittings for caustic soda and chemical service are typically supplied in the annealed condition. The alloy is chosen for its corrosion resistance, not its strength; engineers should not apply stress values appropriate for stainless steel when designing Nickel 200 buttweld fittings piping systems.
| Property | Value (SI) | Value (Imperial) | Condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tensile Strength (min) | 380 MPa | 55 ksi | Annealed |
| Yield Strength 0.2% Offset (min) | 105 MPa | 15 ksi | Annealed |
| Elongation in 50 mm (min) | 40% | 40% | Annealed |
| Hardness (max) | 130 HBW | -- | Annealed |
| Tensile Strength (typical) | 462 MPa | 67 ksi | Work Hardened |
| Yield Strength (typical) | 345 MPa | 50 ksi | Work Hardened |
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Density | 8.9 g/cm3 (higher than stainless steel at 7.9 g/cm3) |
| Melting Point Range | 1435 to 1446 deg C |
| Thermal Conductivity | 70 W/m.K (significantly higher than stainless steel) |
| Thermal Expansion Coefficient | 13.3 x 10(-6) /deg C |
| Electrical Resistivity | 95.6 nO.m at 20 deg C |
| Magnetic Behaviour | Ferromagnetic (unlike austenitic stainless steel) |
Note: The higher density of Nickel 200 fittings (8.9 g/cm3 vs 7.9 for 316L) must be factored into weight calculations for large-bore piping system design and freight estimation.
The Nickel 200 vs Nickel 201 comparison is the most searched distinction in this grade cluster. The differences are subtle in appearance but critical in engineering terms. Below 315 deg C, both alloys deliver identical corrosion performance. Above 315 deg C, only Nickel 201 is safe.
