Alloy Steel T12 seamless tubes containing these alloying elements increase the physical and mechanical qualities of the alloy yielding better hardness, strength, corrosion resistance, and other durability as opposed to the traditional carbon steel. When the amount of carbon in Alloy Steel T12 welded tubes is kept in the medium high range, welding may become difficult. Nevertheless, it is possible to lower the carbon content and increase the percentage ratio of alloying elements of the Alloy Steel T12 tubes, preserving the excellent formability and weldability and maintaining the strength properties which the alloy is famous. Alloy Steel T12 ERW tubes are also shown to be resistant to lower levels of acid at boiling temperatures.

It is possible to machine AS T12 tubes by implementing the normal machining procedures in use with alloys based on iron. AS T12 smooth tubes are also compatible with the commonly used welding methods of the gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and submerged arc welding (SAW). The chemical makeup of AS T12 welded tubes is a matter of 17.5-20% chromium, 8-11% nickel, less than 0.08% carbon, 0.045-0.03 maximum amounts of manganese, silicon, phosphorus and sulphur respectively. The problem with additions of elements like columbium (niobium), vanadium, and nitrogen in AS T12 ERW tubes can be made under particular additions, left at the will of the manufacturer, and additional performance characteristics can be added.
