Alloy 28 Pipes

Alloy 28 Pipes is a tough Austenitic Stainless Steel resistant to harsh environments where other grades of stainless steel fail. It is particularly noteworthy for high resistance to stress corrosion cracking in media containing chlorides in both environments that are highly corrosive in nature and in environments with high concentrations of hydrogen ions. It also retains a high level of strength at elevated temperatures and is intended for use in environments where strength and stability coexist. Note that a word of caution is necessary in this respect in that exposure to high temperatures may lead to the formation of intermetallic compounds.

Provided in seamless, welded, ERW, and EFW forms, Alloy 28 Pipes can be used for a variety of purposes. They can be found in the field of oil and gas processing, chemical and petrochemical processing, offshore platforms, fertilizer production units, heat exchangers, and desalination plants. They can be recognized for their good fabricability properties � those of easy welding and formability � making them ideal for complex piping systems and high-pressure vessels. Manufacturing Process of Alloy 28 Pipes

  • Selection of Raw Materials
    Nickel-iron-chromium alloying components with precise additions of molybdenum, copper as well as nitrogen are chosen to guarantee a high level of pitting, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion cracking and acidic media resistance.
  • Melting & Refining Process
    Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) and Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) are used to melt alloy 28 to obtain clean metallurgy, homogenous chemical composition, and improved mechanical properties with minimal inclusions and segregation.
  • Billet Preparation
    Refined alloy ingots are hot processed by forging, rolling or extrusion to perfect the grain structure, enhance toughness and facilitate smoothly welded billets to be used in producing seamless pipes.
  • Pipe Forming
    Alloy 28 Pipes are produced through seamless extrusion or fabricated with the use of welding. Hot extrusion and cold drawing are used to make seamless pipes whereas welded pipes are made through TIG welding or laser welding so that the weld seams are strong and defect free.
  • Cold Working & Sizing
    Cold drawing and cold rolling are used to attain very tight dimensional tolerances, uniform wall, improved surface finish and increased mechanical strength.
  • Heat Treatment & Annealing
