SS 904L is among a type of the stainless steel. This stainless steel is not a stabilized one and also has low carbon content. Usually, the element copper is added to improve the resistance to strong reducing acids along with this stainless steel. Sulphuric acid is an example of such strong reducing acid. Moreover, it also has other beneficial properties like resistance to crevice corrosion and also to stress corrosion. Also, it is non-magnetic, contains toughness, and offers weldability and even formability. This grade of stainless steel comprises of high amount of nickel and molybdenum. They are also resistant to chloride and warm seawater. Because of the presence of a high amount of chromium in this alloy it possesses high resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
As there are several benefits of using SS 904L Seamless Tubing therefore it is used in many industries. Industries like chemical industries or chemical processing, pharmaceutical industries, oil and gas, for air pollution control, metallurgic industries pulp and paper industries, in condensers, heat exchangers and so on.
SS 904L Seamless Tubing is made up of austenitic stainless steel. It contains molybdenum that provides resistance to such tubing against crevice corrosion and also against pitting by chlorides. Moreover, it also provides resistance against reducing acids and when copper is added it is even resistant to different concentrations of sulphuric acids. Also, it is resistant to chloride caused corrosion cracking. As it contains a low amount of carbon in it, this prevents sensitization caused by welding and also prevents intergranular corrosion. Such tubing is better in comparison to stainless steel tubing because of the higher amounts of nickel and molybdenum in it. This grade of stainless steel and its tubing is highly non-magnetic and also has an amazing weldability and formability property. The structure of this tubing provides excellent toughness even at very low temperatures. Different tests are employed to ensure the quality of the product like hardness test, tensile strength test, weldability testing, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance etc.
