SS 904L pipe fittings typically comply with ASTM A403 / ASME SA403 for wrought stainless steel fittings, ASME B16.9 for factory-made buttweld fittings, ASME B16.28 for short-radius elbows, MSS SP-43 for low-pressure corrosion-resistant fittings, and MSS SP-75 for high-strength wrought fittings. Material certification is generally supplied as EN 10204 3.1 MTC.
SS 904L contains 24–26% nickel, 4–5% molybdenum, and 1–2% copper, which gives it much better resistance to sulphuric and phosphoric acids, chloride pitting, and stress corrosion cracking compared to SS 316L. It is preferred when 316L is insufficient for aggressive chemical environments.
