The factors that facilitate SCC in welded SS 310H pipes usually consist of halide ions (particularly chlorides), residual tensile stress, and temperatures above 120°F (49°C). SS 310H EFW Pipes offer high corrosion resistance in a wide variety of environments and across a broad range of corrosive agents. They exhibit excellent oxidation resistance in intermittent service up to 870°C and continuous service up to 925°C. Nonetheless, in chloride-rich environments, Type 310H SS pipes can be subjected to pitting or crevice corrosion, whereas SCC poses a risk at temperatures over 60°C. Chloride thresholds are an important consideration to 310H grade pipes especially where crevices are present. High concentrations of chloride have the potential of initiating pitting and crevice attack.
The Alloy 310H Pipes are mainly subject to stresses associated with cold forming, roller expansion to tube sheets or welding thermal cycles. These stresses are reduced by post forming annealing or stress relief treatment which increases the resistance to halide induced SCC.
