Metinox Overseas is a company which manufactures and supplies SS304L Seamless Pipes, which have been developed with high resistance to corrosion in the harsh industrial conditions. Our ASTM A312 TP304L and UNS S30403 Pipes are made with 18-20 percent chromium and 8-12 percent nickel, with superior weldability and formability. Our Stainless Steel 304L Pipe has low content of carbide (max 0.03) when compared to the normal 304 grade which prevents the precipitation of carbide and intergranular corrosion in the welded sections without heat treatment after welding.
Seamless Pipes SS 304L is mainly used in petrochemical handling processes, in the marine industry and in pharmaceutical manufacturing sector, in food processing equipment and in storing cryogenic products where corrosion resistance is of primary importance. The austenitic AISI 304L Pipes have the least tensile strength of 485 Mpa and yield strength of 170 Mpa such that structural integrity can be maintained by both cryogenic conditions (-269C) and high service conditions (800C). Sold in seamless, welded and ERW in schedules ranging between SCH 5S and SCH XXS, 1/8 to 36 NB. All the WNR 1.4307 Pipe are subjected to rigorous testing of hydrostatic pressure, ultrasonic inspection, and PMI verification that are in compliance to ASTM A358 and ASTM A269 standards. To improve chloride resistance, we recommend our 316L.

Yes, 304L has less carbon content than the normal stainless steel pipe 304, which reduces the level of carbide that can be sent out during welding. This implies that it can be employed in its as-welded form under highly corrosive condition. In comparison, standard 304 stainless steel would corrode easily at the weld joint. Here are some advantages of 304L.
The Type 304L that has less than 0.03 percent carbon can be used as-welded without intergranular corrosion. It has a content of eight to ten percent nickel and therefore, it is resistant to oxidation and stress corrosion cracking in high temperatures. An increase in nickel content implies that it is applicable in the deep drawn applications. It is significant in case two types of stainless steel are to be compared. It should be a different but similar percentage.
Type 304L is a T-300 series stainless steel which is composed of no less than 18 percent chromium and 8 percent nickel. It is also common in the food business and it is simpler to weld than regular 304. Shaping and forming is also easier. 304L can be a better option in case you need a quick turnaround project. Overall, it is better to get a low-carbon variant of 304.
304L stainless steel is a material that is good at drawability and thus is easy to work and model into different shapes. It is ideal in food processing, making of milk, wine making, and brewing because no annealing is required to make the metals softer. Moreover, 304L stainless steel pipe is suitable in pipelines, fermentation vats and storage tanks. The material is non-corrosive and will resist the strenuous chemical cleaning agents.
Carbon is the biggest difference between 304L and 316L with 304L stainless steel pipe containing 0.08% of carbon and 321 containing 0.31%. This is the typical amount of carbon of any steel. Food processing can be done using both grades. 304L stainless steel pipe is better in machining. The cutting edge must be sharp to avoid overly hardening the work, and it must be so deep as not to chip. The coolant applied in the process should be in a large amount. Hardening 304 stainless steel pipes through heat treatment is not a possibility either. Nonetheless, it can be treated through solution treatment by rapid cooling followed by heating.
The 304L stainless steel pipe is cheaper and simpler to make in comparison with 316. Some of the typical uses of 304 grade stainless steel are wheel covers, electrical enclosures, and other uses of steel pipes. It is a very attractive component in the equipment and site furnishing of the food and beverage industry due to its high corrosion resistance as well as its manufacturability. It is also resistant to a lot of oxidizing chemicals such as other acids and nitric acid.
The variations between 304L and 316L stainless steel are the variation between a corrosion-resistant material and a material that can be welded. The latter can be better applied to the products that are exposed to a marine environment and are exposed to a salt-corrosive environment. No matter what grade you would like, 304L stainless steel is an affordable and useful option in several applications.

SS 304 contains carbon max 0.08% carbon 304L contains carbon max 0.03% carbon. The decreased carbon in 304L lowers the formation of carbide during welding, which suppresses the intergranular corrosion. 304L is better in the welded fabrication that does not undergo multiple welds annealing.
304L is not very resistant to seawater as it has pitting caused by chlorides. Best used in rare saltwater splash or coastal use but not consistent use. Improve to 316L or duplex 2205 where in direct seawater contact application.
The austenitic structure is the reason why annealed 304L is non-magnetic. Cold working (bending, forming) brings about partial transformation to martensite to the extent that it is slightly magnetic. It does not mean low quality it is typical of austenitic grades.
In oxidizing conditions: continuous use to 800C and intermittent use to 870C. Sensitization Not to be subjected to higher temperature (425-815C) in the long-term. Is tough at the lowest LNG/LOX service temperatures, even -269C cryogenic temperatures.
Yes, very good TIG and MIG as well as stick and SAW Welding. Low carbon reduces the formation of carbide thus as-welded can be used without PWHT. PEER308L filler rods are used, interpass temperature is to remain under 150C, and back purging.
Yes, shipments are accompanied by EN 10204 3.1B MTC with the documents of chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensions, heat treatment and heat number. Additional tests are hydrostatic test, ultrasonic inspection and ASTM A262 IGC test.
Yes, the pipes comply with ASME B31.3, ASME B31.1, PED 2014/68/EU, NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 and API. We also offer manufacturer proclaims, CE marking of PED compliance and liaising with notified bodies in EU certifications.
Warehouse in covered and well-ventilated warehouses without being exposed to weather. Wooden dunnage should be used to avoid contact of carbon steel. Keep off ground raised with end caps. Should be stored longer than 6 months, then use rust preventive coating or VCI paper.
