Metinox Overseas is a pioneer in production and distribution of ASTM A694 F52 High Yield Carbon Steel Flanges, which are specifically designed to be used in high-pressure transmission line in oil and gas pipelines, wellhead equipment, and other industrial use that require high mechanical properties. Our ASME SA694 F52 Forged Flanges are produced with high-yield carbon steel with controlled chemical composition that is compatible with API 5L X52 line pipe and ASTM A860 WPHY52 pipe fittings that provide a minimum yield strength of 360 Mpa (52 ksi) and tensile strength of 455-585 Mpa (66-85 ksi). The design of these High Yield A694 F52 Flanges is highly intended to serve in the demanding pipeline transmission systems, Christmas tree manifolds, high-pressure gathering systems and applications where high strength and toughness are required over the F42 or standard A105 carbon steel.
This process of heat treatment is necessary and is accompanied by fully-deoxidized melt and hot forging, which is why microstructure is uniform, notch toughness greater, and the performance under high-pressure cyclic loading and harsh operating conditions is reliable. We produce size ANSI/ASME B16.5 (1/2 to 24 NB) ANSI/ASME B16.47 Series A and B (26 to 60 NB) and MSS SP-44 Weld Neck Flanges, Slip-On Flange, Blind Flange and Threaded Flange with pressure classes of 150 to 2500 pounds per square inch. Every flange is subjected to intensive quality tests such as dimensional inspection, PMI test, tensile test, hardness test, and ultrasonic test as per the requirements of ASTM A961, thereby being completely traceable and with reference to API, ASME and NACE standards in critical pipeline applications.

Yes, the most common grade in the A694 specifications that are used to manufacture high-pressure oil and gas pipeline transmission systems is ASTM A694 F52. The use of the "F52" designation symbolizes the lowest yield strength of 52 ksi (360 MPa), 44 and 24 times better respectively than standard A105 (36 ksi) and F42 (42 ksi), and gives an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and enables optimized pipeline design with either reduced wall thickness or higher operating pressures.
A694 F52 is designed directly to be compatible with API 5L X52 line pipe, the standard grade used in long distance oil and gas transmission line piping in the industry. The result of this metallurgical compatibility is a homogenous mechanical property, weldability as well as performance properties across the entire pipeline system such as pipes, fittings, valves and flanges. The fully-deoxidized steel, hot forging and compulsory heat treatment required by the specification guarantee a constant fine-grained microstructure that has a great deal of notch toughness and would not easily fracture brittlely.
F52 has better mechanical performance than lower grades with good weldability and economic effect. The material is sufficiently strong to operate under high-pressure transmission service (with a maximum of 1440 psi of Class 600 at ambient temperature) and is less expensive than higher grades F60 or F65. Refinement of the grains and precipitation strengthening are as a consequence of the controlled chemical composition with microalloying elements (Nb, V), which give a combination of strength, toughness and weldability most optimal.
The grade is common in wellhead and Christmas tree manifolds, gathering systems, transmission pipelines, offshore platforms and critical pipeline components where high pressure and tough service conditions are necessary. F52 is the best balance between strength, toughness, weldability and cost to be used in mainstream high-pressure pipeline, so it is the most commonly used grade in the A694 specification.

Let us support your projects with quality, precision, and performance.
F52 is stronger (52 ksi, 42 ksi around 24 times higher) and is generally slightly higher in carbon and manganese. F52 has higher material strength reserve to support the high-pressure pipelines and comparable with API 5L X52 pipe, F42 is similar to X42 pipe. The F52 is more popular with mainstream transmission pipeline.
F52 is the best strength, toughness, and weldable at low cost and is used in high pressure pipeline. It offers much greater strength than A105 (44% greater yield) at the same time being economical when compared to F60/F65. It is equal to the industry standard API 5L X52 pipe grade deployed in the world to transport oil and gas.
It can, however, not be the best system performance. The flanges used must be equal to the pipe, F52 with X52, F60 with X60. Although flanges of lower grade are used in combination with higher grade pipe, there is a mismatch of mechanical properties and it may not satisfy the requirements of the design code of a pipeline system that the system shall have uniform strength.
The normal range of Carbon Equivalent is 0.43-0.45% based on what the purchaser requires and code of the pipeline used. CE equals: CE = C + Mn/6 + (Cr+Mo+V)/5 + (Cu+Ni)/15. Reduced values of CE provide improved weldability to field welding of pipeline systems.
Impact testing is optional according to ASTM A694, but can be required by purchaser in low-temperature service, or other critical service. When given, normal requirement is Charpy V-notch testing at minimum design temperature which is frequently 27 J (20 ft-lbf) average at 0-C or less.
F52 is stronger in the yield (52 ksi vs 38 ksi, or 37% better) but A516 Gr 70 is strongest in the maximum tensile (90 ksi vs 85 ksi). F52 is used in the transmission service of pipeline equal to API 5L-pipe; A516 Gr 70 is used in pressure vessels. Varied applications that need varied requirements.
Preheat normally 120-150-C (250-300-F) when the thickness is more than 25mm, and greater when thicker sections are used or restrained. Precise preheat varies based on carbon equivalent, thickness, ambient temperature and hydrogen content of electrode based on API 1104 or ASME Section IX. Always follow qualified WPS.
Yes, with due specification and testing. Indicate compliance with NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 and presence of HIC testing (according to NACE TM0284), maximum hardness =22 HRC, product analysis and sour service documentation. Material should exhibit resistance against SSC (Sulfide Stress Cracking) and HIC (Hydrogen Induced Cracking).
API 5L PSL 2 (Product Specification Level 2) has stricter requirements than the PSL 1, such as a requirement of Charpy impact testing, stricter limits of chemistry, a requirement of nondestructive testing, and limited amounts of carbon equivalent. In the case of a match of API 5L X52 PSL 2 pipe, indicate the same requirements in A694 F52 flanges.
Stock goods which are normally tempering/normalizing: 6-8 days ex-works. Made-to-order: 5-6 weeks of forging, heat treatment (normalizing cycle no less than 3-4 days) required, mechanical testing, chemical analysis and documentation. The expedited heat treatment has been offered in the case of urgent needs where the lead time of 2-3 weeks is possible on standard sizes.
