Metinox Overseas is a pioneering producer and marketer of ASTM A182 F11 Alloy Steel Flanges which are designed with high-temperature and high pressures in use in power generation, petrochemical, and refinery services. Our ASME SA182 F11 Forged Flanges are made of high quality 1.25% Chromium -0.5% Molybdenum low alloy steel of controlled chemical compositions with chromium (1.00-1.50) and molybdenum (0.44-0.65) and carbon (0.05-0.15) in both Class 1 and Class 2 with minimum tensile strength of 485 MPa and yield strength of 205 Mpa. These Cr-Mo Alloy A182 F11 Flanges are developed to be used in high temperature service between -29degC (-20degF) and 593degC (1100degF) service, thus they can be used in power plant steam lines, refinery systems hydroprocessing, high temperature piping systems, hydrogen service, as well as in petrochemical high temperature services.
The alloying elements that enhance creep strength, oxidation resistance and hydrogen attack resistance at high temperatures are the chromium and molybdenum in comparison to carbon steel. ASTM A182 F11 Weld Neck Flange, Slip-On Flanges, Blind Flanges and Socket Weld Flanges are made in full compliance with ANSI/ASME B16.5 (1/2- 24 inch NB) and ASME B16.47 Series A and B (26 inch- 60 inch NB) dimensions and are available in 150 to 2500 pressure classes. All flanges are subject to compulsory heat treatment normalizing and tempering or quenching and tempering then followed by severe quality testing such as dimensional inspection, PMI testing, tensile testing, hardness testing, and ultrasonic testing as required by ASTM A961.

Indeed, ASTM A182 F11 is a perfect selection in the high-temperature service applications where the creep strength and oxidation resistance are significantly superior to that of carbon steel. The 1.25 percent Chromium and 0.5 percent Molybdenum alloying components offer better high temperature mechanical characteristics than carbon steel A105, still offer commendable strength and pressure holding capacities to 593degC (1100degF).
Chromium also increases the oxidation and corrosion strength at high temperatures, using a protective chromium oxide layer which prevents scaling. Molybdenum plays a major role in enhancing creep strength- resistance to permanent deformation under constant stress at high temperatures, and offers outstanding resistance to hydrogen attack in refinery hydroprocessing conditions. This combination enables F11 to be used in power plant superheater and reheater lines, refinery hydrodesulfurization units, and in high temperature petrochemical piping.
The specification has three classes such as Class 1 (Lower carbon, more weldable, more tough) and Class 2 (Higher carbon, more strong) and Class 3 (vanadium modified with better creep resistance). Class 1 is most usually chosen as general high-temperature service as it is a good combination of strength, weldability and toughness. The compulsory heat treatment, which includes normalizing and tempering or quenching and tempering is done to provide uniform microstructure and best mechanical properties.
F11 has been approved to service up to 593degC (1100degF) with codes of ASME B31.1, power piping and ASME B31.3, process piping. Even at even greater temperatures (up to 649degC/1200degF), F22 (2.25Cr-1Mo) has better creep strength. The F11 is the most cost-effective chromium-molybdenum alloy steel in the general high-temperature service use.

F11: 1.25% of Chromium and 0.5% of Molybdenum that offer better high temperature strength, creep resistance and hydrogen attack resistance. The F11 is rated up to 593degC (1100degF) compared to 427degC (800degF) of A105. F11 is necessary and necessitates heat treatment and would be more expensive but is necessary in high temperature service.
Class 1 offers less carbon (0.05-0.15 vs 0.10-0.20) that offers improved weldability as well as toughness and yield strength of 205 MPa. Class 2 contains more carbon which gives it more strength with a yield of 275 Mpa. The most likely common specifications in Class 1 include general high-temperature.
Yes F11 is resistant to hydrogen attack, and finds extensive application in hydroprocessing (hydrodesulfurization, hydrotreating) units at high temperature and high hydrogen partial pressure in the refinery. Adhere to API 941 hydrogen service.
ASME B16.5 is maximum continuous operating temperature of 593degC (1100 deg F). At even higher temperatures up to 649degC (1200degF), increase to F22 (2.25Cr-1Mo) that is more creep resistant.
Yes, heat treatment is generally necessary on post-weld heat treatment at 680-750 deg C (1250-1380 deg F) as required by ASME B31.1 and B31.3. Minimum preheat of 175-230 deg C. Filler metals should be similar such as E8018-B2 or ER80S-B2.
F22 (2.25Cr-1Mo) contains more chromium and molybdenum that is giving it better creep strength at high temperature above 538degC. F22 is rated to 649degC vs 593degC for F11. F11 is cheaper in moderate high temperature service, F22 in severe high temperature service.
Yes, with NACE MR0175 compliance. State hardness =22 HRC maximum, product analysis, heat treatment conformance and sour service documentation. F11 is good in H2S resistance when well heat treated.
SMAW, E8018-B2 or E9018-B3, GMAW, ER80S-B2, GTAW, ER80S-B2, SAW, F8A2-EM12K. Preheat 175-230 deg C, interpass Obligatory per code =315 deg C, PWHT 680-750 deg C.
