Metinox Overseas is a leading ASTM A105 flanges manufacturer and supplier. ASME SA105 Forged Flanges are quality manufactured using controlled carbon steel chemical composition comprising of carbon (max 0.35%), manganese (0.60-1.05%), and silicon (0.10-0.35%) and provide our best tensile strength of 485 Mpa and Yield strength of 250 Mpa. The flanges are made of Carbon Steel A105, specifically aimed at ambient and high temperature service between -29-C (-20-F) and 427-C (800-F) to be suitable in crude oil pipelines, the natural gas processing system, refinery piping systems, steam lines, and the overall industrial use.
The counterfeit manufacturing process guarantees better grain flow, integrity, and mechanical strength of the flange body. Our A105 Weld Neck Flanges, Slip-On Flanges, Blind Flanges and Socket Weld Flanges are made to the dimensional requirements set by ANSI/ASME B16.5 (1/2 to 24 NB) and ASME B16.47 Series A and B (26 to 60 NB) in their pressure classes (150 to 2500 NB). The flanges are put through strict quality tests consisting of dimensional inspection, PMI testing, hardness testing, hydrostatic testing and ultrasonic testing as required by ASTM A961 and heat treatment optional except when indicated to relieve stress.

Yes, ASTM A105 is the most popular carbon steel specification in the oil and gas industry around the globe based on forged flanges. It is the standard of ambient and elevated temperature service to 427-C (800-F), and is an excellent compromise of mechanical properties, weldability, and cost-effectiveness. The low level of carbon (max 0.35%) used in conjunction with manganese and silicon gives sufficient strength and good weldability in most applications without the use of preheat.
A105 flanges offer tensile strengths of 485 Mpa and yield strengths of 250 Mpa which is enough to suit high pressure piping system in refineries, petrochemical and power plants. The fabricated manufacturing method gives high performance of the grain flow over cast materials leading to high mechanical performance and load cycles and thermal stresses.
Although A105 cannot be used in cryogenic service below -29-C (use of A350 LF2 is required) it is well suited in the typical industrial temperature service and can be used in the ASME B31.1, B31.3 and B31.4 piping codes. There is no mandatory impact testing required by the specification, and so it is less expensive than low-temperature grades, but impact testing may be specified when necessary regarding critical applications or project requirements.

A105N will indicate normalized heat treatment where A105 can be in as-forged condition or in the normalized state. A105N contains superior grain structure and mechanical characteristics and is often oriented towards important usage. Both of them fulfill identical chemical and mechanical requirements.
The lowest and highest rated limit of A105 flanges are -29-C (-20-F) to 427-C (800-F) respectively according to ASME B16.5. Low-temperature carbon steel of A350 LF2 should be used in low temperatures, which are less than -29-C. There must be alloy steel A182 F11/F22 above 427-C.
Heat treatment Standard A105 flanges that can be supplied in the as-forged form do not need heat treatment. However, normalization may be ordered to obtain further grain structure, stress relieving may be necessary when the project requires a critical service or extreme wall thickness.
A105 has a higher amount of carbon (peak carbon is 0.35% compared to 0.26%), and is employed in ambient temperatures (-29-C to 427-C). A350 LF2 has also minimized carbon to provide superior low-temperature toughness (-46-C minimum) and mandatory Charpy impact testing and therefore can also be used in applications involving cryogenic service.
Yes, A105 was easily welded with the help of SMAW (E7018), GMAW (ER70S-6) or GTAW and without any preheat and up to the thickness of 25mm. It is recommended to preheat in thicker sections to 95-120-C. It might be necessary to do code requirements that mandate the heat treatment of pressure vessels, which has to be performed immediately after welding.
Yes, every shipment will contain EN 10204 3.1B MTC of the actual chemical composition, tensile test data, hardness data, traceability of heat number and manufacturing information. Others like NACE MR0175, PED and API 6A are under order.
A105 may be operated in steam service to a maximum of 427-C (800-F). It can typically be used on ASME B31.1 power piping, boiler feed water, superheated steam and condensate systems. According to the ASME table B16.5, pressure ratings decrease with the temperature.
The highest pressure corresponds to the size and temperature. Class 2500 at ambient temperature offers 6170 psi of NPS =1. Class 2500 rating is also 3430 psi at 427-C (800-F). See tables of ASME B16.5 pressure-temperature rating under special use.
