Metinox Overseas manufactures and supplies Alloy Steel P22 Pipes which are used in challenging applications, where strength and mechanical reliability in high temperature are of great importance. The alloying elements in these pipes are mainly in the form of carbides or inter metallic compounds as opposed to being homogenously distributed in the iron-carbon matrix. The alloy steels P22 have a surface of flame-hardened seamless pipes, which can have a lower wear resistance value than carburized steels with the same hardness, because of the variation in carbon enrichment. But an exception is the case of nitrided components, which exhibit a higher wear resistance than would otherwise be anticipated of carbon content only. Completely hardened and tempered low-carbon, including 10CrMo9-10 (P22 equivalent) has a good strength and toughness at room temperature and lower temperatures. Alloy Steel P22 pipes require close supervision of heat treatment since it might lower toughness substantially when improperly tempered as a result of temper embrittlement.

Temper embrittlement in AS P22 pipes can be formed when the material is gradually cooled between the temperature limits of about 900degF to 600degF or when it is retained or held in the temperature range of about 900degF to 600degF. No matter what method of heat treatment is used, three significant factors may adversely affect the toughness of AS P22 seamless pipes: low operating temperatures, high loading or strain rates, and existence of stress concentrations or residual stresses. Nickel, aluminium and silicon are alloying elements that are used in the formation of compounds in AS P22 / ASTM A335 pipes affecting mechanical behavior. In the manufacturing process, molten P22 alloy steel pipes are frequently vacuum-degassed, which serves as a method of reducing the content of hydrogen and, to a smaller degree, oxygen and nitrogen, which leads to the overall enhancement of the material integrity and performance.
