Metinox Overseas manufactures and sells Alloy Steel P22 Pipes, which are used in rigorous applications, where durability and perseverance of power under high temperature are considered important. The alloying elements in these pipes are mostly either carbides or intermetallic compounds and not evenly distributed across the iron-carbon matrix. The alloy P22 steels may be flame-hardened seamless pipes, and the surface of this alloy may reach a smaller value of wear resistance as compared to that of the same hardness carburised steel because of the difference in the content of enriched carbon. This is, however, an exception for nitrided parts, which have higher wear resistance than would otherwise be expected of carbon content alone. Complete hardened and tempered low-carbon steel, e.g., 10CrMo9-10-like (equivalent of P22), is not only good at room temperature but also at lower temperatures. Of importance is the fact that Alloy Steel P22 pipes are supervised closely during heat treatment since this can cause toughness to diminish to a high degree in improperly tempered pipes owing to temper embrittlement.

The temper embrittlement in AS P22 pipes can be realised through either cooling the material between the temperatures of about 900°F to 600°F or keeping or maintaining the material at the temperatures of about 900°F to 600°F. Irrespective of the heat treatment method, three significant factors that could adversely affect the toughness of AS P22 seamless pipes are low operating temperatures, high loading/strain rates and the existence of stress concentrations or stress residues. Silicon, nickel, and aluminium are alloying materials that are used in the production of compounds in the AS P22 / ASTM A335 pipes that affect mechanical actions. The molten P22 alloy steel pipes during the manufacturing process are usually vacuum-degassed, which is also employed as the method of reducing the quantity of hydrogen and, to a lesser degree, oxygen and nitrogen that adds to the general bettering of the material integrity and functioning.
